Bonnie Weigert, MD, is a UW Health physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor. She’s also an associate professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Weigert diagnoses and treats patients with neck pain, back pain and bone, muscle and joint disorders. She also sees patients with brain and spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, stroke and other conditions.
Dr. Weigert has specialized expertise in the performing arts and athletic activities. She understands the care needs of competitive performers experiencing pain, injuries and setbacks.
To tailor care, Dr. Weigert asks her patients what they can’t do that they'd like to do. She develops treatment plans to prevent or manage pain and improve function. She directs physical therapies and occupational therapies (for daily living activities). She may prescribe medication, exercise therapy or speech therapy to meet individual goals. Dr. Weigert collaborates with other specialists, including social services and support if needed.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Weigert conducts research in performing arts medicine. She also studies the health benefits of dance.
Outside of work, Dr. Weigert enjoys spending time with family, supporting her daughter’s dance interests, knitting and making jewelry.
I focus on helping people return to whatever they want to do — whether it’s getting back to work, getting back on the stage to dance or getting back to playing sports.
