Filling your prescriptions at UW Health is easy

Take advantage of our expertise and convenience by filling your prescriptions at a UW Health Pharmacy. If you want to transfer your prescriptions to UW Health from another pharmacy, we take care of the paperwork. There are four ways to get started:

Pharmacy kiosks open 24/7

You may wish to pick up prescriptions at one of our new UW Health Pharmacy kiosks. Like an ATM for your prescriptions, pharmacy kiosks are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Kiosks use camera technology to verify that the correct person is picking up the prescription. Refrigerated storage is also available for medications that need to be kept cool.

Free prescription delivery by mail

Prescriptions can be delivered directly to your home through our free mail delivery service. By signing up, you’ll also get refill reminders by phone call or text message.

There are two ways to enroll in mail service:

A pharmacy team member will contact you to review your medication needs and work with your current pharmacy to transfer your prescriptions to UW Health.

Specialty pharmacy

The UW Health Specialty Pharmacy is your answer if you take complicated, high-cost drugs called specialty medications. Many specialty medications require monitoring by specially trained pharmacists, special storage and handling, and might not be readily available at local pharmacies.

  • Once enrolled, you can have your prescriptions shipped directly to you or choose to pick up your prescriptions at the UW Health Specialty Pharmacy

  • All packages are properly insulated according to their temperature requirements

  • Once enrolled, your pharmacist will reach out periodically to discuss your personalized medication needs prior to shipping any medications

UW Health take-back bins

Safely dispose of unused and unwanted medications at special take-back bins, located in several UW Health pharmacies in Madison and available during normal pharmacy hours. Medications must be placed into the receptacle by the patient or their delegate. Staff members are not permitted to accept medications for disposal.

  • Accepted: Pills, capsules. Please remove medications from the container and dispose the loose pills/capsules in the bins.

  • Not accepted : Lotions, liquids, schedule I controlled substances, illicit drugs, epi pens, inhalers, aerosols, cans, needles, thermometers.
