Amy Bednarek, PT, is a UW Health physical therapist specializing in sports rehabilitation. She treats athletes of all ages and skill levels. Her specialties include adult and pediatric sports medicine, running injuries, knee injuries and rehabilitation after knee surgery. She also has expertise in sports-related spondylolysis, a spinal stress fracture that can cause back pain in children and adolescents. Amy works with athletes recovering from reconstructive surgeries after sports injuries, including sprains or tears in ligaments and tissues that support the knees. Amy collaborates with experts in physical medicine and rehabilitation, sports medicine and other specialties to help athletes reach their performance and treatment goals. She works to restore athletes’ strength, flexibility and function for a safe return to play. Her comprehensive care includes biomechanics assessments for runners using specialized treadmills and technologies. She evaluates an athlete’s running movements and patterns to help improve performance and prevent injuries. In addition, Amy teaches post-operative classes including the Spectrum group rehabilitation program that combines lower-body rehabilitation with sports training. In her free time, Amy is active in running, biking and bouldering, a sport that involves climbing shorter rock formations without ropes or harnesses. I entered the medical profession because I saw the impact of physical therapy as a young athlete. I love the blend of science and the art that this work requires.
