Dr. McCarthy is a cardiothoracic surgeon who specializes in lung transplantation. He is involved in all areas of thoracic surgery, with emphasis on surgery in patients with advanced lung disease. His interests include lung transplant, ECMO, lung volume reduction surgery, parenchymal-sparing lung cancer resections and antireflux surgery for patients with chronic lung disease. His research is focused on efficient healthcare delivery and medical device development in academic medical centers. He is the co-founder of a medical device startup company and holds several patents.
