Acerca de

David Hsu, MD, PhD, is a neurologist at UW Health where he also serves as the director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Clinic as well as a professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Neurology. Dr. Hsu treats children with seizures and other brain or nerve disorders.

He enjoys working with children and their families. Dr. Hsu finds a range of possible treatment options and helps each family choose the best option for their child. When traditional medicine doesn’t control a child’s seizures, he will work with a dietitian to see if a ketogenic diet might help and when that is not an option, he consults with pediatric neurosurgeons to determine if surgery is a good option.

Dr. Hsu’s research focuses on using mathematical and computational skills to solve problems in neurology and neurosurgery. His work includes understanding why shunts used to treat hydrocephalus (buildup of fluid in the brain) often fail. He also uses data from children with brain injuries to predict how well a child will recover and creates models of the brain’s electrical signals to design a way to prevent seizures.

In his free time, Dr. Hsu enjoys playing musical instruments.
