Acerca de

Dixon Kaufman, MD, PhD, FACS, is a UW Health transplant surgeon and professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Kaufman performs abdominal transplantations for patients with organ failure. He specializes in kidney and pancreas transplant surgery.

Open, honest communication is key to effective patient care. Prior to surgery, Dr. Kaufman ensures he and his patient are on the same page and that he has answered all of their questions. He understands that transplant surgery is a difficult decision. He wants his patients to know they are in good hands with an experienced, professional medical team.

In addition to caring for patients and training the next generation of transplant surgeons, Dr. Kaufman is actively involved in research to push the field of transplantation surgery forward. He studies ways to minimize the anti-rejection medication people take after transplant surgery and is involved in cutting-edge research using animal organs in humans (xenotransplantation).

In his free time, Dr. Kaufman is an avid sports fan and enjoys cycling and being outside with his family.

My hope for all my patients is that they can live a healthy, long life with their newly transplanted organ.
