Ford Ballantyne III, MD, is a cardiologist at UW Health and the co-director of the Adult Congenital Clinic, which he began in 1990. He cares for adults with a range of cardiovascular conditions. Specializing in the integration of cardiology and internal medicine, Dr. Ballantyne sees adult patients with conditions affecting the heart such as congenital heart disease, arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), heart attacks and vascular issues. He diagnoses and treats heart disease using the latest methods, including electrophysiology (the study of abnormal heart rhythms) and echocardiography (the measurement of the heart’s electrical activity). As a dedicated patient advocate, Dr. Ballantyne takes time to get to know his patients to understand their needs and offer meaningful solutions. Through active listening, communication and collaboration, he encourages patients to fully participate in their recovery and regain control of their health. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ballantyne is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He has received numerous awards during his distinguished career. Outside of work, Dr. Ballantyne enjoys living “off the grid” with his beloved flock of chickens and geese. My hope for each one of my patients is that they feel in control of their life and their health.
