Gillian Headley, MD, is a UW Health neonatologist and director of the Women and Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She cares for newborns who are critically ill and require time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before going home. Dr. Headley treats the smallest, most vulnerable patients. Many are infants who were born prematurely and have underdeveloped lungs or complex health conditions. Using a patient-centered, family-focused approach to care, Dr. Headley is committed to providing the best care possible for her patients and empowering their caregivers with the skills and confidence they need to care for their babies at home once they are discharged from the hospital. Dr. Headley wholeheartedly believes neonatology is her true calling. She is honored by the trust parents place in her and she strives to provide comfort to families during this stressful time. Outside of work, Dr. Headley enjoys discovering new foods, both fine dining and street food, as well as traveling. She frequently visits Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, where she was born. When I’m caring for an infant, I’m caring for their entire family. I take that responsibility very seriously.
