James Bigham, MD, is a UW Health family medicine doctor and clinical associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He provides primary care for patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.

Dr. Bigham treats patients in all stages of life with a variety of chronic (long-term) and acute (sudden onset) health conditions. He also provides preventive care services, including wellness exams, vaccinations and education, and performs minor procedures such as joint injections, skin biopsies (tissue sample removal) and toenail care.

Dr. Bigham believes in shared decision-making and treating patients like family. He uses open communication to create a culture of collaboration and trust. His goal is to create treatment plans that fit each patient’s specific needs and health goals.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Bigham is involved in various community health initiatives, including educating people about vaccinations and firearm injury prevention.

In his free time, Dr. Bigham enjoys a variety of hobbies, including reading, cross-country skiing, attending concerts, supporting Wisconsin sports teams and spending time with his family. He’s an avid baseball fan who has visited ballparks around the country.
