Joseph A. McBride, MD

Joseph McBride, MD, is an infectious disease specialist at UW Health. He treats complicated infections in adults and children as well as infectious diseases related to organ transplants.

Dr. McBride focuses on patients with rare diseases which gives him added expertise in managing some of the most complex medical problems, including HIV care, travel medicine, tropical medicine and working with people who are experiencing homelessness.

He is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease. He also consults with the Department of Pediatrics, teaches medical students and residents, and serves on committees focused on infection control.

Dr. McBride is an avid researcher on a wide range of topics. These include understanding Blastomyces — a fungus that occurs in Wisconsin and surrounding areas — the study of antimicrobial issues, probiotic safety and efficacy, and methods for improving communications with the public and physicians who are not infectious disease specialists.

In his free time, Dr. McBride enjoys sports, movie marathons and his dog.
