Acerca de

Joshua Mezrich, MD, is a UW Health transplant surgeon and a professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Transplantation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Mezrich performs abdominal transplantations for patients of all ages with organ failure and specializes in kidney and liver transplant surgery. He also performs organ procurement surgery, harvesting organs from living and deceased donors.

Dr. Mezrich works closely with patients and their families to prepare them for organ transplantation. He recognizes that patients can feel a range of emotions and he takes the time to explain the procedure and possible outcomes. He listens to their concerns and works to develop a relationship with his patients through compassion and respect. He considers transplant patients as an extension of his family.

Dr. Mezrich views his donor patients, both living and deceased, as the true heroes. He believes the field of transplantation is special because to give someone an organ is to give them life.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Mezrich conducts research that studies how pollution and diet influence the immune system and transplant success.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mezrich is a published writer who enjoys skiing, exercising and practicing yoga.

It’s very rewarding to have someone who is incredibly sick and make them completely better again.
