Acerca de

Katherine Bakke, MD, is a UW Health surgeon and an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Bakke performs elective, non-urgent and urgent surgeries for adult patients with a variety of conditions — from hemorrhoids (swollen rectal veins) and hernias (protruding tissues) to appendicitis (diseased appendix), diverticulitis (bulging intestinal pouches) and colon and gallbladder disease.

Dr. Bakke’s approach to care is patient centered. Because she sees her patients as people first before their diagnoses, she takes time to address their fears and make them aware of any risks before surgery. She meets patients where they are and works with them to find the best surgical options for them.

In addition to her clinical practice and teaching role, Dr. Bakke researches ways to improve access to surgical care in rural communities in Wisconsin.

In her free time, Dr. Bakke enjoys thrift store shopping and exploring new restaurants in Madison.

My hope for every patient is to give them their health back, so they can live their lives to the fullest.
