Kathryn (Kelly) McQueen, MD, is a UW Health anesthesiologist and a professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. McQueen cares for children and adults undergoing surgery and other procedures. She provides sedation, pain relief and pain management and supervises her patients’ care before, during and after their procedure. Dr. McQueen believes in the importance of providing compassionate, patient-centric care. She treats patients with respect, values their input, and partners with them to create customized care plans. She strives to address her patients’ overall health needs — their physical care as well as their emotional and social well-being. To help improve patient care around the world, Dr. McQueen conducts research to study patient safety issues. She also studies health outcomes and access to anesthesia care in low- and middle-income countries. During her free time, Dr. McQueen enjoys gardening, music, animals and spending time outdoors. She’s committed to life-long learning and exploring a wide variety of new topics. I entered the medical profession to help improve health care for all patients, especially those with limited resources and less access to quality services.
