Acerca de

Matthew Harer, MD, is a neonatologist at UW Health and an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery. He treats infants with a wide range of health conditions that require care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Dr. Harer collaborates with experts from a multitude of specialties to ensure that each patient gets the best possible care. Because he views parents as the top experts on their child, he blends their input with evidence-based medical techniques to help babies get better so they can go home with their families.

Dr. Harer has a special interest in caring for babies with kidney conditions. Using a kidney oxygen monitoring device that detects kidney injury in real-time, he is able to provide prompt treatment and decrease the rate of kidney injuries in the NICU.

In addition to conducting research that focuses on improving the kidney care of babies in the NICU, he is the co-chair of the Research Committee and a board member of the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative (NKC).

In his free time, Dr. Harer stays active running, biking and playing basketball, golf and tennis. He also enjoys watching sports, traveling and spending time outdoors with his wife and kids.

The look on parents' faces when they get to take their babies home is always priceless for me.
