Peter Nichol, MD, PhD, is a pediatric surgeon at UW Health and an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Surgery. He treats children with a variety of conditions, including neonatal congenital disorders (present from birth), thoracic (chest) deformities, tumors, abdominal wall disorders and intestinal disease.
Dr. Nichol specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures. While he treats all types of pediatric conditions and traumatic injuries, he has a special interest in children with short gut syndrome (intestinal failure) and other intestinal disorders. As director of the Pediatric Short Gut/Intestinal Failure Clinic at UW Health, Dr. Nichol works with the nutrition support team to provide nutritional guidance and treatment for children born with intestinal abnormalities that require surgical intervention.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Nichol is working to develop new therapies that will enable growth of the gut in children with intestinal failure and volunteers with international health mission work.
After hours, Dr. Nichol enjoys race cars, soccer, paddle boarding, running and yoga.
