Rebecca Minter, MD, FACS, is a UW Health surgical oncologist and professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where she also serves as department chair. Dr. Minter treats patients with pancreatic cancer. She also treats other conditions such as precancerous spots and pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). She has a clinical interest in pancreatic cancer prevention. She works with patients who have abnormal screenings showing early signs of cell growth that may develop into cancer. When Dr. Minter meets patients for the first time, she provides education to ensure they understand their diagnosis. She includes them in decisions about their treatment and gives them truthful information about what to expect. She cares about her patients’ goals and respects their choices in handling their illness. She believes patient care requires mutual respect and teamwork. In addition to her clinic work, Dr. Minter oversees surgical training programs in her department and conducts research focused on surgical education. Outside the clinic, Dr. Minter enjoys traveling, snow and water skiing, hiking and being outdoors with her family. I think of my patients as friends who are in trouble. I don’t just take care of my patients; I care for them and about them.
