Sandip Biswal, MD, is a UW Health radiologist and a professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He performs advanced imaging procedures to help diagnose a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions affecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Dr. Biswal focuses on finding the reason why patients have lower back, knee, shoulder and other types of musculoskeletal pain and provides image-guided injections for pain management. He also assesses imaging studies to determine the presence of musculoskeletal infections, tumors and cancers.
Dr. Biswal believes communication with his patients is essential for better care. He listens carefully to patients’ concerns, answers their questions and explains procedures in easy-to-understand terms. He also makes himself available outside of clinic hours as needed.
In addition to his clinical practice and teaching role, Dr. Biswal has spent more than 20 years developing a new molecular imaging method to pinpoint the location and determine the cause of musculoskeletal pain in his patients. His research is beginning to help patients find more effective treatments for their pain.
In his free time, Dr. Biswal enjoys photographing landscapes, people and events.
It is rewarding to see a patient have less pain and a better life after an accurate diagnosis and the appropriate treatment.
