Sarah Schaefer, NP

Sarah Schaefer, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner in endocrine surgery. She cares for patients who need surgery to treat endocrine disorders and diseases.

Sarah is skilled in a range of endocrine conditions affecting the thyroid gland (responsible for metabolism, growth and development), parathyroid gland (controls calcium and phosphorus levels in the body) and adrenal glands (produces hormones that help control heart rate and blood pressure). She provides pre- and post-operative care and helps patients manage conditions such as Hashimoto’s disease (underactive thyroid), Graves’ disease (overactive thyroid), thyroid nodules (growths), thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid), Cushing’s syndrome (overproduction of cortisol) and adrenal tumors.

Sarah enjoys getting to know each of her patients and learning what they have planned for their lives after she helps them take control of their endocrine disease. She takes time to explain surgical procedures and what to expect during the recovery period. She uses a patient-centered approach to care and personalizes treatment plans to meet each patient’s individual needs and goals.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking and biking.

Being on the same page as my patients with their treatment plan is a top priority.
