Swapnil Lanjewar, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Lanjewar cares for people with various infections throughout the body, including brain infections. He has special interest in a specific type of bacteria that causes infections in different areas, including the lungs, skin and blood. He also has a special interest in infectious diseases of the bones and joints. Dr. Lanjewar chose to specialize in infectious disease because it involves the whole body and the whole person, rather than one specific organ or body area. The first step in his care process is to listen to his patients and hear what they have to say about their health condition in their own words. Dr. Lanjewar finds it very rewarding to identify a cure for his patients’ infections and start them on the road to recovery. Dr. Lanjewar is involved in research that focuses on improving education for infectious disease fellows. He has also completed research on high-profile infections such as Clostridioides difficile (C. diff), a dangerous gut infection. Outside of work, Dr. Lanjewar enjoys hiking with his wife and playing ping pong with friends. My philosophy is to provide the same level of care to all patients as I would my own family.
