Timothy Schmidt, MD, is a hematologist at UW Health. Dr. Schmidt treats patients with benign, precancerous and cancerous blood conditions such as multiple myeloma (plasma cell cancer), amyloidosis (amyloid protein build-up), monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) and other monoclonal gammopathies (abnormal blood proteins) and smoldering myeloma, a blood and bone marrow disorder. Dr. Schmidt specializes in autologous stem cell transplantation, which replaces damaged cells with a patient’s own healthy stem cells. He offers advanced blood cancer treatment options such as cellular and T-cell engaging therapies including CAR-T cell therapy and bispecific antibodies. These therapies use the body’s natural defense systems to target tumors. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Schmidt is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He also conducts clinical research trials to study promising new blood cancer therapies and collaborates with scientists at leading medical centers to advance cancer care. I offer supportive care and help patients make informed decisions that fit their personal values and goals.
