Trevor McKown, MD, is a UW Health rheumatologist and an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. McKown diagnoses and treats systemic (body-wide) autoimmune rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus and other inflammatory immune system disorders. Dr. McKown cares for patients with all types of rheumatic conditions, including joint inflammation. He has a special clinical interest in rheumatology diseases that involve lung inflammation such as scleroderma (systemic sclerosis) and myositis (muscle swelling and weakness). In addition to performing comprehensive testing and evaluation, Dr. McKown listens, educates and guides his patients as he discusses their treatment options. He personalizes care to meet the unique needs and goals of each patient. Because rheumatic diseases can affect multiple organs within the body, he works with other UW Health specialists as needed to treat individual symptoms and conditions. In his free time, Dr. McKown enjoys biking and cross-country skiing. When patients come back and say they feel so much better, that’s always a fist-pump moment.
