Ryan Herringa, MD, PhD, is a UW Health Kids psychiatrist. Dr. Herringa works with children experiencing post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. He also treats children diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ADHD and many other mental health conditions. Dr. Herringa has a special interest in working with children and families who have experienced significant trauma and adversity due to abuse or tragic life events such as a car accident, fire or loss of a parent. With the same care he would give his own family members, Dr. Herringa works to put his young patients at ease, understand their unique issues and create an effective treatment plan. His ultimate goal is to help children achieve a healthier way of thinking so they can survive their trauma and thrive. When not directly caring for patients, Dr. Herringa is an associate professor and serves as director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He directs the Brave Research Lab, studying neurodevelopment in children who have suffered trauma. During free time, Dr. Herringa enjoys reading, hiking, sailing, swimming, watching movies and spending time with family. I try to help children overcome trauma and recover a sense of well-being so they can enjoy life, even with its ups and downs.
