About
Aaron Wieland, MD, is a UW Health otolaryngology (head and neck) surgeon and associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Wieland diagnoses and treats a wide range of head and neck conditions, including cancers, noncancerous tumors and injuries of the head and neck. He cares for patients with cancers of the mouth, larynx (voice box) and throat, as well as growths on the parotid (salivary) and thyroid glands. He also treats disorders affecting voice, swallowing and breathing, facial nerve disorders and traumatic injuries to the head and neck.
Dr. Wieland is highly skilled in advanced, minimally invasive and open surgical procedures, including head and neck reconstructive surgery for patients who have had tumors removed. Dr. Wieland customizes treatment plans to support each patient’s personal concerns and goals and uses a shared decision-making approach to care.
In addition to his clinical and faculty roles, Dr. Wieland conducts research that looks at scientific findings about head and neck cancer to determine specific therapies for patients.
In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, running, gardening and spending time on the lakes.
It’s rewarding to see patients come back with a smile because they've gone from a difficult place to a place of hope and positivity. That keeps me coming back to work every day.
