Ali Shafiq, MD

Ali Shafiq, MD, is a UW Health cardiologist. He cares for patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions affecting the heart and valves.

Dr. Shafiq commonly diagnoses and treats conditions such as ischemic heart disease (severe blockages in the coronary arteries), congestive heart failure (fluid accumulation in the lungs and throughout the body), valvular heart disease (affecting the heart’s valves) and arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm). He is skilled in a range of treatment techniques, including minimally invasive treatments like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Dr. Shafiq has special clinical interests in structural heart disease (problems with components of the heart) and congenital (present at birth) heart defects such as patent foramen ovale, or PFO (hole between the upper chambers of the heart).

With a focus on respect, Dr. Shafiq treats all patients as if they were family. He uses honest communication, shared decision-making and years of experience to find the best treatments for his patients. Outside of work, Dr. Shafiq enjoys spending time with his family, skiing and practicing taekwondo.

My care philosophy is to treat each patient how I would want a doctor to treat my own family members.
