About

Alison (Ali) Dunlap, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner specializing in cardiology electrophysiology (EP). This specialty focuses on arrhythmias (heart rhythm disorders), including atrial fibrillation (A-fib).

Ali works with a cardiac electrophysiologist (heart EP), a doctor who tests, diagnoses and treats disorders of the heart’s electrical system. These include irregular heartbeats, atrial flutter (rapid beats in the heart’s atria or upper chamber), tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) and other abnormal heart rhythms. Alison helps to identify and coordinate treatments for irregular heart rhythms, fast and slow heart rhythms and underlying problems that cause rhythm disorders.

Ali performs procedures such as cardioversion, which uses electric shock or medication to restore normal heart rhythm. She also monitors loop recorders that track and record a patient’s heart rate and rhythm and other devices, such as pacemakers and defibrillators. Ali works with EP doctors to identify irregularities through electrophysiologic studies (EP studies) that provide a closer look at heart function.

At every stage of care, Alison helps patients to understand their conditions, treatments and treatment options.

In her free time, Alison enjoys playing volleyball, playing basketball and trying new sports.

My ICU nursing experience helps me to understand patient care and concerns during challenging times. I enjoy building relationships and helping people meet their goals.
