Ana De Roo, MD, is a fellowship-trained UW Health colorectal surgeon. She’s also an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Surgery, Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
Dr. De Roo diagnoses and treats people with disorders involving the colon and rectum. These include colorectal and anal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, polyps and pelvic floor disorders.
Dr. De Roo is highly skilled in the latest treatments and minimally invasive surgical techniques. She performs laparoscopy, robotic surgery, transanal minimally invasive surgery (a way to remove tumors from the rectum and other procedures. She works to help patients recover as quickly as possible with minimal pain and side effects.
When talking with patients, Dr. De Roo listens closely to their concerns. She explains their conditions, treatment options and what to expect. If her patients feel stress and anxiety, she offers resources and helps them work through it.
To improve care, Dr. De Roo researches how doctors and patients can work together to create effective care plans. She wants people to feel heard and to make a positive difference in their lives.
During her free time, Dr. De Roo enjoys bicycling with her family.
Through surgery, we work to cure cancer. It’s rewarding when we can call patients and tell them their lab report is good and shows that we got it all.
