Andrea Christensen, NP, is s nurse practitioner at UW Health. She works in the hospital setting caring for patients with conditions affecting their urological tract. These conditions include certain types of cancer (kidney, bladder and prostate), kidney stones, enlarged prostate and problems urinating — also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Andrea understands that her patients’ concerns can be sensitive, and their symptoms can lead to discomfort. She works to make them feel safe and comfortable by helping them understand their condition and involving them in decision-making and treatment planning.  Andrea enjoys hiking with her family, cooking and wine tasting with friends.  

I think it is so important to include patients in the treatment planning. Incorporating their values and beliefs really helps them heal. Asking them how they feel or, ‘Is it OK if we do a certain test or procedure,’ is so important.
