Caitlin Pepperell, MD

About

Caitlin Pepperell, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor. She’s also an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Pepperell diagnoses and treats patients with severe and rare or complicated infections, including antibiotic-resistant infections. She helps other doctors to identify and treat infections ranging from tuberculosis (TB) to endocarditis (a type of heart infection). She guides doctors and care teams from diagnosis through treatment throughout a patient’s hospitalization and follow-up visits.

Taking a holistic approach to care, Dr. Pepperell consults with other doctors and specialists and integrates leading-edge information and therapies into care plans. She finds the solutions that work best for each patient’s needs. Dr. Pepperell listens compassionately to her patients and their families and explains conditions and treatments in understandable terms.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Pepperell researches bacteria with a focus on TB infections. She studies how germs emerge and evolve as they’re transmitted from person to person.

Outside of work, Dr. Pepperell likes to spend time in the outdoors and enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities.

I often treat patients when they’re gravely ill, but the most rewarding part is getting to know them personally as they start to feel better and recover.
