About

Christopher Purtell, MD, is a UW Health cardiac electrophysiologist and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Purtell treats patients who have heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) disorders. He specializes in complex arrhythmia disorders.

Dr. Purtell provides symptom-guided management of irregular heartbeat conditions such as tachycardia (too fast heartbeat) and atrial fibrillation, or AFib (abnormal heartbeat). He uses both invasive and noninvasive techniques and is skilled in a range of treatments, including catheter ablation and implantation of cardiac devices such as defibrillators and pacemakers.

Dr. Purtell practices patient-centered care. When he first meets his patients, he takes time to understand their medical history and symptoms. He educates them on their condition and uses shared decision-making to develop a care plan that best meets their goals and values.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Purtell enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, biking and running marathons.

Nothing is more important than for patients to feel safe in their care and comfortable with the treatment decisions we make together.
