Egon Doppenberg, MD, is a UW Health neurosurgeon and medical director of Neurosurgery at UW Health Northern Illinois.
Dr. Doppenberg provides surgical treatment for a wide range of neck and back disorders. He has a special clinical interest in disc replacement surgery and the surgical treatment of neurologic disorders affecting the brain, spine, pituitary gland and nervous system.
Dr. Doppenberg was born in the Netherlands and moved to the United States for a National Institute of Health (NIH) -funded Clinical Research Fellowship in severe traumatic brain injury. He has contributed to the field of neurosurgery through numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters, spinal instrumentation patients and as invited lecturer at international symposiums.
In addition to his clinical and academic work, Dr. Doppenberg has participated in ten neurosurgical mission trips to Latin and South America to provide care for the underserved. This reflects his commitment to global health.
Dr. Doppenberg advocates for conservative treatment when appropriate and emphasizes the importance of patient involvement in understanding their diagnosis and treatment options. He utilizes the latest minimally invasive techniques and motion preservation procedures in treatment of spinal conditions.
Dr. Doppenberg is fluent in English, Dutch and German.
