Eric Gaumnitz, MD, is a UW Health gastroenterologist. Dr. Gaumnitz cares for people with gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), trouble swallowing food or pills, heartburn, food allergies and other digestive tract issues.
His clinical interests also include colon cancer screenings and general care of other organs related to the esophagus. Those include the mouth, stomach and intestines.
Taking the role of a detective, Dr. Gaumnitz listens closely to his patients’ symptoms and concerns. He uses those clues to make a diagnosis and create an effective care plan, including the latest treatments. When talking with patients about their condition, he uses terms they can easily understand.
His goal is to help each patient regain their ability to swallow food and drink comfortably, without any sense of choking.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Gaumnitz is a professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
During his free time, Dr. Gaumnitz enjoys outdoor activities, such as biking and cross-country skiing.
It’s exciting to offer new treatments that help people swallow their food and take pills more easily and without pain.
