Eric Cotter, MD, is a UW Health sports medicine doctor. He's also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Cotter treats patients of all ages with shoulder, elbow and knee conditions. This includes arthritis, fractures, dislocations and tears. He specializes in reconstruction, repair and replacement surgeries, such as ACL reconstruction, meniscus transplant and Tommy John surgery. Dr. Cotter also offers non-surgical treatment options.
Dr. Cotter enjoys listening to his patients’ stories. By understanding their backgrounds and goals, he helps his patients return to doing what they love. A firm believer in evidence-based medicine, Dr. Cotter explains each available treatment option during important health decisions. He talks to his patients about their mental health when healing and getting back to sports.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cotter researches clinical outcomes of cartilage restoration procedures in the knee. He also studies soft tissue balancing and reverse shoulder arthroplasty procedures.
In his free time, Dr. Cotter enjoys spending time with family and chasing around his two kids.
My goal is to help my patients get back to doing what they love with as little pain as possible.
