About

Geoffrey Baer, MD, is a UW Health orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine. He’s also an associate professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Baer specializes in sports medicine and knee and shoulder procedures. He diagnoses and treats active children and adults of all ages and skill levels.

Dr. Baer treats conditions such as ACL tears (torn knee tissues and ligaments), shoulder injuries and repetitive stress injuries. He offers surgical and nonsurgical solutions, from knee injections to surgery and minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment procedures. He performs knee ligament and cartilage surgeries, knee-realignment surgery and complex shoulder surgery.

As a sports fan and player, Dr. Baer understands the challenges of injured athletes. He helps recreational players, student-athletes and professional athletes return to play. He collaborates with other specialists, including surgeons, physical therapists, rehabilitation experts, sports psychologists, athletic trainers and others to help patients achieve their goals.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Baer researches the effectiveness of specific sports therapies.

Outside of work, he enjoys attending his children’s sporting events, skiing, golfing and home fitness workouts.

I love helping young athletes or active parents and grandparents get back to their favorite sport or just holding their grandchild — that’s a great feeling to have.
