Haley Smith, MD

Haley Smith, MD, is a UW Health osports medicine doctor. She’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Smith treats sports injuries, knee and hip arthritis and other conditions. She works with active teens and other young athletes.

As a sports medicine surgeon, she offers medical and surgical treatments. These include minimally invasive procedures for hip, shoulder and knee injuries. She repairs torn, damaged or dislocated shoulder joints. She also treats pinched knee and hip joints.

Dr. Smith’s areas of focus include hip arthroscopy and other arthroscopic procedures. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive treatment. She uses small instruments and cameras to look inside a joint and repair damaged tissues.

Dr. Smith considers her patients’ lifestyles, sports and activity levels and treatment goals. She works with other UW Health specialists to develop a comprehensive care plan. Dr. Smith might recommend physical therapy, injections or other therapies before considering surgery. Her goal is for patients to safely return to their favorite sports and activities.

In her free time, Dr. Smith loves traveling, good food, skiing and playing pickleball.

I love seeing how surgery can improve a patient’s quality of life, whether it's getting back to the athletic field, playing with their kids, traveling or being a caregiver.
