Howard Kaufman, DO, is a UW Health maternal-fetal medicine doctor and serves as the director of labor and delivery and the neonatal intensive are unite (NICU) at Women and Children’s Hospital in Rockford. Dr. Kaufman provides care to expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies.
Dr. Kaufman diagnoses and treats prenatal conditions, hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, preterm labor and other pregnancy complications. He also offers fetal therapy (treatments for fetal abnormalities) and amniocentesis (a procedure used to identify genetic conditions).
Recognizing that most of his patients face tough circumstances, Dr. Kaufman strives to provide compassionate, individualized care for expecting mothers and their families. Through open communication and shared decision-making, Dr. Kaufman helps his patients, and their loved ones, navigate difficult pregnancies and achieve positive outcomes.
Dr. Kaufman is a distinguished fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves as the chair of both the quality for women’s health and medical education.
Outside of work, Dr. Kaufman enjoys photography, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends.
