Ian Grimes, MD, MS, is a gastroenterologist at UW Health. Dr. Grimes provides care for people with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, microscopic colitis and colon cancer.
Dr. Grimes regularly performs colon cancer screenings and cares for patients pre- and post-surgery. He also regularly helps adolescents with IBD transition to adult care.
Dr. Grimes believes in listening first to understand where a patient is coming from and how their disease affects their daily life before making treatment decisions. He then partners with patients to improve their condition and quality of life.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Grimes is an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is also the director of the gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship program, where he trains medical students, lectures and helps with curriculum design.
I believe in partnering with my patients and making shared decisions for their best treatment options.
