Jamie Birkelo, PA, is a UW Health orthopedic physician assistant. He treats adult patients with sports-related injuries. This includes ACL tears, meniscus tears, shoulder dislocations and torn rotator cuffs. Jamie also helps patients manage other conditions like arthritis. With a specialty in joint replacement, he primarily works with patients during their knee, hip and shoulder replacement journey.
From diagnosis, Jamie ensures his patients feel listened to as they share their needs, goals and concerns. He walks them through their condition and treatment options. This collaborative approach helps patients take an active role in their care.
Jamie wants to help patients return to their desired functional level, whatever that might be. For him, there’s no better feeling than watching his patients achieve their goals after treatment.
Outside the clinic, Jamie enjoys spending time with family and attending live music events. An avid runner, Jamie has completed several marathons.
I think of care as a collaborative effort. I give patients the education and resources they need to have a say in their treatment.
