Jennifer Schmidt, PA, is a UW Health physician assistant. She specializes in caring for patients in the hospital who are having surgical treatment for colorectal (colon and rectal) conditions. These include diseases and disorders of the lower gastrointestinal (GI) or digestive tract. GI conditions can range from polyps (abnormal cells on the colon wall) and irritable bowel diseases (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and colitis to colorectal cancer.
Jennifer provides perioperative (before surgery) and postoperative (after surgery) care for patients having colorectal procedures. As part of the surgical team, she is involved in patient evaluation and treatment. She prepares patients for procedures and monitors recovery. Her patient-centered, personalized approach to care includes educating patients about their condition and procedure. Jennifer also explains what to expect during recovery and advises patients about lifestyle changes for improved long-term health after they leave the hospital.
