Mark Lucarelli, MD, is a UW Health oculoplastic surgeon (an eye doctor with specialty training in plastic or reconstructive surgery). He treats patients with conditions related to the structures surrounding the eyes. He typically treats age-related changes of the eyelids, ocular bone fractures, tear duct conditions, tumors and Graves’ disease (inflammation in the tissues behind the eyes). Dr. Lucarelli also is a professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Lucarelli has a special clinical interest in treating patients who need surgical facial reconstruction after skin cancer removal around the eyes, or those with Graves’ disease. He also treats patients with movement disorders who require injections to improve their facial function.
Recognizing the need to customize treatments to each patient’s situation, Dr. Lucarelli listens carefully to his patients to understand their concerns. He explains their condition and prognosis, then discusses each treatment option’s pros and cons.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Lucarelli trains the next generation of eye surgeons and participates in clinical research with patients who have Graves’ disease.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Lucarelli enjoys golfing and saltwater fly fishing.
It's really rewarding to see my patients making progress over a short period of time.
