Mark Stram, MD, is a UW Health anesthesiologist. He is also a clinical associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Stram uses anesthetics (medicine) to prevent pain and keep people safe and comfortable during surgeries and procedures. Dr. Stram works with the surgical team and provides a wide range of anesthesia services to control pain. These include general anesthesia (which puts patients into a deep sleep) and regional anesthesia (which numbs part of the body, such as an arm, leg or from the waist down). Dr. Stram also performs IV sedation, another pain control method that relaxes patients and causes sleepiness. Before surgery, Dr. Stram meets with patients to assess their health and to create an anesthesia plan that best fits their needs. During procedures, he monitors his patients’ heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vital signs to ensure their safety and comfort. Dr. Stram also works to help patients manage any pain they may experience after surgery. When not caring for patients, Dr. Stram enjoys music performance, photography, skiing, cycling and hiking. I use state-of-the-art anesthesia and monitoring devices to keep people safe and comfortable during surgeries and procedures.
