Nayan Patel, OD, is a UW Health optometrist who cares for adult and pediatric patients. He treats a wide spectrum of eye diseases, including refraction issues, red eyes, infections, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma. Dr. Patel also prescribes glasses and contact lenses to help patients see better.
In the clinic, Dr. Patel believes the best outcomes happen when doctors work together with patients. He creates a collaborative care environment by taking time to listen to patients and their families. These discussions help Dr. Patel tailor effective — and sometimes life-changing — treatments. He especially loves to witness his patients’ joy when they experience clear vision for the first time.
Dr. Patel’s clinical research focuses on the treatment of pediatric myopia (nearsightedness or difficulty seeing far away). He’s testing ways to slow myopia progression by using atropine eye drops and red light therapy. Dr. Patel also works closely with cancer patients to monitor potential eye toxicity from chemotherapy treatments.
In his free time, Dr. Patel enjoys traveling, biking and spending time outdoors with his family.
There’s always more than one way of treating things. Care plans work better when we discuss all the options.
