Ryan Woods, MD, MPH

Ryan Woods, MD, MPH, is a UW Health radiologist. He’s also an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Radiology.

Dr. Woods specializes in breast cancer detection. After patients have a mammogram, ultrasound or MRI to screen for cancer, Dr. Woods examines the images. He looks for cancer or other abnormalities in the breast tissue and analyzes the results. Dr. Woods also performs breast biopsies guided by mammograms, ultrasound and MRI to help surgeons find and diagnose cancer.

Typically, Dr. Woods sees people who need more imaging tests because their initial screening detected a potential abnormality. He talks with patients about their test results and cancer risk with compassion and care. When people need further treatment, he addresses their concerns and explains their next steps. His goal is to guide patients to the right specialist to help them achieve the best possible outcome.

In addition to breast cancer detection, Dr. Woods researches how doctors can use computer systems more effectively to improve imaging and patient care.

During his free time, Dr. Woods enjoys biking and photography. 

My job is to detect and diagnose breast cancer as early as possible and to guide patients to the right treatment.
