Samuel Poore, MD, PhD, is a UW Health plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he serves as chair of the Division of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Poore performs a range of plastic and reconstructive procedures, including microsurgery, hand surgery, limb salvage and post-weight loss body contouring. He specializes in breast reconstruction following complete or partial mastectomy (breast removal) for breast cancer. He also treats patients who choose breast removal and reconstruction due to high-risk family or genetic histories.
Dr. Poore’s advanced techniques include procedures that use a patient’s own tissues for breast reconstruction. His holistic approach includes encouraging patients to take an active role in their care.
As part of multispecialty research teams, Dr. Poore is involved in leading-edge plastic and reconstructive surgery and biomedical engineering research. Dr. Poore is also involved in studying patient care outcomes to improve treatment approaches and results.
In his free time, Dr. Poore is a songwriter who plays the guitar, performs folk music and collects classic acoustic guitars.
