Sarah Mc Dermott, DO

Sarah Mc Dermott, DO, is a UW Health Kids pediatric hematologist and oncologist (blood and cancer specialist). She’s also a associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Mc Dermott diagnoses and treats children who have blood cancer or bleeding and clotting disorders. One of her specialties is treating vascular tumors and other abnormal growths in the veins, arteries or lymphatic system.

When Dr. Mc Dermott meets with children and families, she offers expert medical care and helps them feel as comfortable as possible. She listens to their concerns, outlines treatment options and answers questions. Together, they create care plans the child and family can follow. Dr. Mc Dermott believes it’s important for families to understand their next steps and feel confident in their medical team.

One of Dr. Mc Dermott’s goals is to teach children how to communicate their symptoms and to empower them with the knowledge they need to stay as healthy as possible throughout life.

During her free time, Dr. Mc Dermott enjoys traveling, exploring farmers’ markets and spending time with family at parks, pools and splash pads.

I want my patients to know that we’re walking this journey together. They’re never alone in terms of their medical care. We’re here to support them.
