Derrick Chen, MD, is pathologist at UW Health and an associate professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he also serves as the medical director of Clinical Microbiology.
As a clinical and anatomic pathologist, Dr. Chen is skilled at diagnosing disease through laboratory analysis of bodily fluids, tissues and cells. His clinical interests include pathology and laboratory medicine, as well as clinical microbiology.
Dr. Chen strives to improve patient care and laboratory practice in his daily practice. As an educator, he shares his knowledge with the next generation of pathologists and conducts research on the molecular detection of Helicobacter pylori (a bacterial infection in the stomach) and macrolide resistance (resistance to the class of drugs used to treat bacterial infections).
