Our beautiful new state-of-the-art transplant clinic was built to honor our commitment to patient-centered care. We’ve brought together the full spectrum of adult transplant services in a modern, convenient location just inside the University Hospital Clinics Entrance, just steps away from parking and valet services.
The clinic is aligned to serve the special needs of adults who are being evaluated for, or have received a transplant, and those who give the gift of life through living organ donation.
Services for these programs are located within the new transplant clinic:
Heart transplant
Kidney transplant and delayed graft function
Kidney/pancreas transplant
Liver transplant
Living kidney donation for directed and non-directed donors
Living liver donation for directed and non-directed donors
Lung transplant
Pancreas transplant and total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplant
Renal autotransplant
Multi-organ transplant
To limit the need to travel within the hospital, these services are now provided within the new transplant clinic:
Abdominal biopsies
ECG
Echo and echo guided heart biopsy
FibroScan
Preoperative care for living donors and recipients
Infusions with IV ultrasound placements
Medication consultations with transplant pharmacists
Nutrition counseling with registered dieticians
Specific outpatient lab services
Pulmonary function testing

Health psychology consultations and counseling
We’ve included modern technology throughout the new clinic to assist patients and reduce wait times:
Large screen team learning in our Patient Education Room
Patient-ready computers so learning can continue in every exam room
Alaris interoperability and barcode medication administration for safer medication administration practices
eSynch digital boards that help coordinate patient and provider workflows
In summer 2022, the entrance to University Hospital Clinics was remodeled. Now transplant patients have easy access to the Pleasant T. Rowland Transplant Clinic, which is just steps away from the front door.
The clinic space features a comfortable and spacious waiting area for patients.
The front desk welcomes patients to the new clinic. To the right is the Living Donor Wall, honoring the incredible gift living donors have given to others.
The Living Donor Wall showcases the light, love and life shared by our living organ donors. Recent living donors are highlighted on the front of the wall.
The back of the Living Donor Wall includes an electronic lookup for all UW Health living donors and a display of living donation stories. The wall features select stories of individuals who have become living donors. Visitors can scan a QR code with their phone to look up a donor's name, which will then display in a large graphic on the center panel.
The Pleasant T. Rowland Transplant Clinic was designed to prioritize the patient experience. Many rooms feature natural light and other elements to make the time in clinic as comfortable as possible.
Patients are invited to ring the Bell of Hope and Gratitude to celebrate transplant or donation anniversaries or other special dates.
