UW Health offers different telehealth options for your convenience.

Scheduled video appointments

When you need to see your UW Health provider, video appointments let patients meet with their healthcare provider using a smartphone, tablet or computer with webcam. It’s an easy way to get great care from the comfort of home. These appointments are scheduled with your provider's clinic.

Urgent care video visits

When you need quick access to a medical provider, Care Anywhere urgent care video visits are available 24/7 for certain conditions like cold and flu symptoms. Whether your child has a rash or you're feeling sick, video visits allow you to see a provider without having to leave home. No appointments are needed.

Telehealth uses software that is both secure and HIPAA compliant that allows you to have a video visit for most appointments. Just like an appointment in the office, you and your provider can see and hear each other using a computer or mobile device that has a camera and microphone.

MyChart scheduled video appointments

Learn how to access Care Anywhere urgent care video visits

MyChart E-Visits are available to adults (18 and older) who have seen their UW Health primary care provider and have an active UW Health MyChart account. If you have not yet seen your primary care provider, you will not be able to conduct an E-Visit until after your initial appointment. E-Visits are not available for anyone under 18 at this time.

You can submit an E-Visit for the following symptoms:

  • Diarrhea

  • Low back pain

  • Red eye

  • Sinus problems

  • Vaginal discomfort or discharge

  • Frequent or painful urination (women only)

How E-Visits work

A typical E-Visits can take 10-15 minutes to complete. You cannot save your progress and return later.

To start an E-Visit, log in to your MyChart account and type in “E-Visits” in the search menu bar. You'll then be prompted to select a symptom from the list of choices.

Next, you will be prompted to answer a series of questions including any treatments and medications you have tried. The questions are designed for the particular symptom you have selected. When you have completed all the questions you will see a preview of your responses, and you may change any answer at this time. Once you determine the information is complete and accurate, you submit the E-Visit to UW Health.

You may cancel your E-Visit any time before you submit it.

E-Visits typically receive a response within 2 hours through your MyChart account. In some cases a provider might decide it is best to speak with you by phone and will use the contact information you provided at the start of the visit. If UW Health clinic staff determine you should be seen in person instead of treated by E-Visit, you will be notified that your E-Visit has been stopped and you will not be charged for the E-Visit.

MyChart E-Visits become part of your permanent UW Health medical record, and will be available to those who participate in your care and treatment now and in the future. A copy of your MyChart E-Visit will be sent to your UW Health primary care provider so that he or she is aware you were treated via E-Visit.

If at any time your symptoms worsen and you feel you should be seen, do not hesitate to call your primary care clinic or UW Health urgent care clinic.

E-Visit hours

E-Visits are handled by a UW Health physician assistant, nurse practitioner or physician who works in a UW Health urgent care or primary care clinic during the following hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

  • Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

E-Visits submitted during these hours will typically receive a response within 2 hours. Visits submitted after 7 p.m. on weekdays or 4 p.m. on weekends/holidays will be responded to by 10 a.m. the next morning.

If you are experiencing a life- or limb-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.

E-Visit fees

For the most up to date E-Visit price information, please log in to your MyChart account. If your E-Visit is canceled, you will not be charged.

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of an E-Visit. For this reason, UW Health does not file an E-Visit insurance claim on your behalf.

The E-Visit fee pays for the review of your answers, review of your medical record and treatment recommendations. The fee does not include the cost of other services such as prescription drugs, laboratory tests or X-rays, if any of these are needed.

It is likely that your Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program will cover the cost of an E-Visit. Check with your FSA program to see if this is a covered expense.

Submitting an E-Visit for someone else

For patient safety reasons, it is important that you do not submit E-Visits regarding other people from your MyChart account. Even for spouses, parents or others covered by the same insurance plan, you must only submit your own medical information from your MyChart account. Your E-Visit will be sent directly to your UW Health medical record. The provider that handles your E-Visit will review your medical history along with the information you provide in your E-Visit to determine the appropriate treatment recommendation for you. To ensure that your medical record contains the correct information now and in the future, you must not submit E-Visits regarding other people.

If you have MyChart proxy access to another person over the age of 18, you can submit an E-Visit regarding that person from their account. To do this, connect to the other person's account by clicking the button with their name in the Accounts bar at the top of the screen, and send the E-Visit from within their account.

  • Never do a video visit while driving.

  • Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be interrupted.

  • Choose a well-lit area with minimal distractions.

  • Position your camera at eye level for the best interaction with your provider.

  • Your video appointment room might appear dark before your provider joins.

  • Turn your camera, microphone and speakers on (volume up).

  • Strong wi-fi or wired interest is recommended (using a cellular signal will cause choppy video)

  • Fully charge or plug in your device.
