Mark Burkard, MD, PhD, is a UW Health medical oncologist and a professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He treats patients with breast cancer.

Dr. Burkard is skilled in the most advanced cancer therapies available, including chemotherapy, immune-boosting treatments, novel drugs and other emerging treatment options. He believes in shared decision-making with his patients and personalizes care to meet their unique needs.

Using plain language, Dr. Burkard explains the treatment options that have high chances of a good outcome. He answers questions, addresses concerns and then works with patients to determine the best care plan for them.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Burkard conducts breast cancer research and clinical trials for precision breast cancer treatments.

Outside of work, Dr. Burkard enjoys spending time with his family and attending his children’s hockey games.

We discover the unique needs of each patient and then partner with them to accomplish their health goals.
