Acerca de

Ran (Catherine) Zhang, MD, is a UW Health gynecologic oncologist and cancer surgeon. She’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Zhang diagnoses and treats female gynecologic cancers, including pelvic cancers, ovarian cancer and cancers of the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus and fallopian tube. Dr. Zhang evaluates patients, including lab and imaging test results, to assess their condition and guide their care.

Taking a holistic approach, she takes time to get to know patients and their concerns, hopes, expectations and goals. She listens to patients and their families and supporters and lets them know they’re not alone. Dr. Zhang discusses conditions and treatments, guiding patients through each step of their journey.

In addition to patient care and teaching, Dr. Zhang conducts cancer research. Her recent work includes studying circulating tumor DNA, which is DNA that comes from cancer cells. She also studies HPV-associated cancers and reviews patient outcomes data for quality improvement.

In her free time, Dr. Zhang enjoys portrait photography, hiking and jogging.

It’s important to be a good listener so I can not only treat a patient’s cancer but understand what’s important to them and support them in their journey.
