LGBTQ+ Family Building: Fertility care for everyone

If you are part of a same-sex female couple and wish to conceive a child, you have several options. These include:

• Artificial insemination (IUI)

• In vitro fertilization (IVF)

• Partnership IVF

Once you have decided who will carry the pregnancy, our team will perform a fertility evaluation and recommend the best fertility treatment option.

Same-sex male couples wishing to conceive a child may want to consider an egg donor and gestational carrier. If your gestational carrier is also your egg donor, this person is called a surrogate.

Our team uses in vitro fertilization (IVF) or artificial insemination (IUI) to fertilize your donor egg.

Men in same-sex relationships will need to determine which partner will provide the sperm for conception. Our team will perform a semen analysis to ensure optimal results. If your semen analysis indicates potential fertility problems, our team can recommend additional fertility treatment options. 

Our team will also perform a fertility evaluation on your chosen gestational carrier or surrogate.

If you are a transgender man or woman planning to have hormonal or surgical treatments and wish to have a child, you may want to consider freezing your sperm or eggs via cryopreservation.

Cryopreservation ensures your sperm or eggs can be part of the conception process. Donated sperm or eggs are an option for transgender men and women who do not pursue cryopreservation.

If you are a transgender woman, you can use preserved sperm or donor sperm with an egg donor and gestational carrier or surrogate.

If you are a transgender man, you can elect to use preserved eggs or donor eggs with donor sperm. Transgender men with a uterus may carry their child or work with a gestational carrier.
